Biometrical Letters is the official journal of the Polish Biometric Society. It was founded in 1964 and is published with the financial support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
Aims
The journal is dedicated to the development and application of statistical and mathematical methods in the life sciences. Its primary aims are to:
- publish papers concerned with the analysis and interpretation of results from biometrical experiments, using mathematical and statistical methods;
- promote the use of statistical and mathematical methods across the principal disciplines of life sciences, with emphasis on practical applicability;
- present methodological advances motivated by real problems in biology, agriculture, medicine, ecology, and related fields;
- publish review papers and articles illustrating the practical use of methods of data analysis and statistical inference.
The core of most Biometrical Letters articles is statistical inference grounded in applied problems. Papers should include a description of the substantive problem alongside a section detailing the application of the methodology. Articles presenting only extensive mathematical theory, without connection to a concrete applied context, are generally not suitable for publication.
Scope
The journal welcomes submissions from a broad range of disciplines, including:
- biosciences and biometry
- mathematical and statistical theory with biological applications
- biology and genetics
- medical statistics and clinical trials
- agriculture and forestry
- ecology and environmental sciences
Case studies, review articles, and papers on the development or application of statistical software are also welcome.
Peer Review
All submitted manuscripts undergo anonymous double-blind peer review by two independent reviewers. Manuscripts are screened for originality using the Similarity Check plagiarism detection system.
Open Access & Publication Fees
All articles are published in full open access under the CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 licence, ensuring immediate and unrestricted availability. The journal is free of charge for both authors and readers — no article processing charges (APCs) apply.
